Types Of Groups

Anger Management Groups

Our program is a 12-week program that consist of group sessions that addresses anger, impulse control and trigger recognition. The objective of the intervention is to teach skills that will assist in developing skill that will improve the management anger and overall reduction of issues related to anger. We address interpersonal conflicts, domestic violence, legal problems and others.

Our groups are sensitives to specific needs of the individuals seeking education.  Each group focuses on topics that are relevant in assisting each person to achieve his/her individual goals.

Batterer Intervention Program

The Batterers Intervention Program is a 26-week, court-ordered curriculum designed to teach positive, nonviolent ways of relating to others in intimate and family relationships. Based on a national best practice model, the Emerge Curriculum is approved under the NC Council for Women/Domestic Violence Commission's standards.

Sex Offender Treatment

The sex offender education program provides group and individual instruction to individuals with self-identified or legally mandated need for services. The main goal of the program is to reduce the likelihood of future sexual offenses. Ultimately, the safety of the community is the highest priority.

Anger Management

Topics

There is a variety of subject matter covered in the groups.  The goal is to identify as many areas as possible to address issues related to the individuals’ anger.  Some of the topics that are covered include:

  • Recognizing and accepting feelings
  • Identifying triggers to anger
  • Thinking before acting
  • Effective conflict resolution
  • Use of support systems

Entrance Process

There Each individual referred will have an initial anger assessment to identify their specific area of need.

If the individual is found to be appropriate for the group, a fee for services will be developed.

The participant will be enrolled to begin services as soon as possible, starting in the next available twelve (12) week group. (Recommendations to treatment are person centered and may involve additional group sessions. Arrangements to participate in additional group sessions will be made on a case by case basis.)

Referrals

Referrals for services come from a variety of community sources such as; the Department of Probation, the Department of Social Services, the County Courts, the Police or Sheriff’s Departments, or other private referral sources.

Batterer Intervention

Program
The program focuses on ending physical, sexual and psychological violence, and holding the perpetrator accountable for:

  1. The perpetrator’s violence (and)
  2. All other abusive acts that have been initiated by the perpetrator (and)
  3. Changing the perpetrator’s violent and abusive behavior.

Program Requirements
The program requires clients to participate in single-gender, 90-minute weekly group sessions for at least six months (26 sessions). The initial intake session is considered a treatment session. Clients are required to attend each session alcohol and/or drug-free.

Victim Safety
Victims of the participants in the program will not invite or require to attend perpetrator treatment programs, counseling sessions, or education groups which the program requires participants to attend as a condition of their contracts.

Screening
The program has the authority and responsibility to screen all referrals.

Confidentiality
The program will protect the confidentiality of all participants as expected by the Batterer Intervention Program. All participants will be informed that there are special circumstances where confidentiality may be broken.
